Post subject: lost ability to play mpeg audio
Archived from groups: alt>comp>hardware>pc-homebuilt (more info?)

I seem to have lost the ability for mpeg audio playback on my desktop
computer. I have an asus a8ne motherboard with an amd 64 3500 cpu using a
creative soudblaster platininum 2z soundcard. Dvds that I produce using my
video editing system will not playback audio but audio will playback when I
transfer these dvds to my dell laptop. Also commercially produced movies
will not playback audio on the desktop computer. Other audio formats from
sources such as cd and itune podcasts appear to playback with no problem. I
have updated the audio driver for the soudcard to no avail. MPEG audio will
not playback but audio from all other sources plabacks fine. The only
relevant change in the computer recently has been upgrading to the new
windows media player. .

Any assistance would be greatly apreciated.

Just an update. The playback problem seems to be isolated to windows media
player. I can play back dvds w audio using the nero player. In an attempt to
correct the situation I rolled back windows media player to version 10.
This, however, did not correct the playback problem. Because I only recently
upgraded to version 11 I do not know if I was ever able to playback mpeg
audio in that version of the player; however, I did regular use wmp 10 to
playback my dvds with no problems.

Ah... windows media player. Makes you feel good about updating, don't it?

Sounds like a codec issue. No other changes, so something got lost. Try
www.free.codecs.com.
